Dollmare

In Dollmare, we begin our new job at a very odd toy factory. We are desperate to make some money, so we take on this part time job regardless of the rumors about its shady reputation. For some reason, we are the only employee at this factory. We never meet our boss in person, but we can see him up in his office window as he gives us instructions over the loudspeaker. It's a bit strange but we don't have much of a choice if we'd like to keep affording rent.
Our job is to sort through the dolls at our workstation and dispose of any that don't pass inspection. Throughout the game, our job becomes more and more difficult. Soon the imperfections show up on many of the dolls and we are required to repair them and check for imperfections that are not visible to the naked eye. Personally, I think our boss begins making up some of these imperfections but maybe that's just me.
As the days go by, things begin to get more strange and personally more stressful lol. Along with the additional repairs and quality checks, we are eventually required to package dolls up to mail out to customers. This leads to us to leaving the work area and eventually needing to explore more of the factory to fix malfunctions. It's up to us to stay alive and find out what is going on in this place.
Overall, I really enjoyed playing Dollmare. I think it took me a over 2 hours to play through the first time, but I did end up going back and seeing if I can get the second ending. I don't wanna spoil things too much, but some of your decisions during the gameplay will lead you to the type of ending you get. This game is available for purchase on steam. I highly recommend trying out Dollmare for yourself, or you can check out my play through if you click here!

Rot in Paradise

In Rot in Paradise, we play as June who is about to go on vacation with some friends. At first the resort seems super fancy and like this is going to be the best time. Sowly, they begin to notice some things are not adding up. What's up with these strange guest encounters and things slowly beginning to fall apart.

In the beginning, we are introduced to McCoy, Vonnie, Carmen and Ryan. They take the ferry to an island resort for a weekend getaway. There is a bit of an odd encounter before checking in, but June quickly brushes things off. They get settled into their room and decide to check out the bar.

Throughout the rest of the game, we get to know a little more about these different characters. They spend time at the beach and check out what else the resort has to offer. Soon things begin to get more and more strange. June can't help but notice these strange occurrences.

Rot in Paradise has 2 different endings, both left me a bit speechless during my playthrough. I highly recommend you check out this game for yourself. It is a fairly short 2D horror visual novel which makes it easier to go back to try for the second ending. Rot in Paradise is created by the same game developer who made Elevator Hitch and Dead Plate which I've previously played and wrote about. This game is available to download on itch io, or you can also click here if you'd like to watch my playthrough.

This Bed We Made

This Bed We Made takes place in the 1950s. We play as Sophie who is a maid at the Clarington Hotel. Throughout the game, we explore the hotel as we complete her work tasks and interact with fellow coworkers. While cleaning the hotel rooms, we soon discover there is a sinister mystery for us to solve.
Throughout your playthrough, you have a lot of freedom in how you interact with the objects and job tasks, but all of your actions will determine your fate. This game has multiple directions the storyline can go in with multiple endings depending on your decisions throughout the game.
Sometimes, even the smallest decisions can end up affecting the lives of those within the hotel. You can also choose who you want to become allies with as you begin trying to solve this mystery. I really enjoyed being able to interact with Sophie's coworkers.
Overall, I really enjoyed playing This Bed We Made. I don't want to go on and accidentally spoil anything before you get to try the game out for yourself. I highly recommend you do. Just make sure you are mindful about the decisions you make. This game is available for purchase on xbox, playstation and steam if you decide to check it out. If you'd like to check out my playthrough you can click here!

What Remains of Edith Finch

In What Remains of Edith Finch, we play as Edith Finch as she returns to her childhood home. We explore the different rooms and land to learn more about her family members and what has become of them.

This game has beautiful scenery outside and very detailed room inside of the home. The storylines of each character were well crafted and often a more interactive story where we get to play from that person's point of view. It helped understand a little more about them.

I really enjoyed playing this game as we ventured through discovering even more about the people that Edith thought she already knew. They all seemed to have so much more going on than meets the eye. I enjoyed how the art style would often change in order to shift the mood of the whole storytelling sections.

I would definitely recommend playing this game. It isn't your average explorative game. I'm not going to sit here and write that this is the most revolutionary game or anything, but I genuinely enjoyed playing along as we made our way through the Finch home. At times the story can take a sad turn but overall, it was a great game to play. If you would like to play for yourself, this game is available for purchase on multiple gaming platforms. If you would like to check out my play throughs, you can click here for Part 1 and click here for Part 2.

Dead Plate

Dead Plate is a 2D restaurant tycoon themed rpg horror game. Part of this game include visual novel and point and click elements. We play as Rody who is trying to make as much money as possible within a week. We get hired at a fancy bistro and begin work as a waiter.

I grew up playing games like Jane's hotel, Diner Dash and Delicious (Emily's New Beginning). So, this game was perfect for me to play. The section serving the customers could sometimes be a bit frustrating, but I think that is more of me fumbling with the keys rather than the game set up. I very much enjoyed that aspect of the game, but I also liked the point and click sections to learn more about our characters.

This game is made by the same developer that made Elevator Hitch, racheldrawsthis. Similar to Elevator Hitch, Dead Plate has multiple endings to it, and there is more to the game than meets the eye. There's is a lot more to this story then just serving customers in a hurry and saving up to buy your next add on from the magazine advertisement.

I definitely recommend you try this game out if you are a fan of games like diner dash or games with horror intertwined in the storyline. I was completely surprised when I reached the end of the game. You can download this game for free on itch io, or you can check out my play through if you click here!

Elevator Hitch

Elevator Hitch is a 2D point n click indie horror game where we are simply just trying to get to our job interview. We are joined by an interesting character along the way, as we try to figure out how this crazy elevator works in this building that keeps becoming stranger by the minute.

This game appears to be a series of completing some tasks in order to keep moving towards your interview. Seems simple enough right? Wrong. Just when you think you know what's going on, this game flips everything around and makes you wonder if you even want to pass the interview and work here.

I enjoyed the trial and error of the game when trying to find out the correct choices you are meant to make. This game also has several endings, so you will most likely find something new no matter what decision you choose in certain scenarios.

Overall, I highly recommend this game for anyone who wants to play a horror game with a good mix of comedy. The main characters personalities made the game even more fun to see how they would react to certain situations. The estimated play time for this game is around an hour to an hour and 20 minutes. There are 15 different endings in the game. You can click here to check out how my playthrough went. This game is also available to download for free on itch io. I also recommend checking out dead plate after playing Elevator Hitch. Both games are by the same game dev, racheldrawsthis.

Egg Fried Rice

Egg Fried Rice takes place in the middle of the night. We cannot fall back to sleep because of how hungry we are, so we decide to take a trip to the local takeaway and order some Egg Fried Rice. What could possibly go wrong? It's only a short drive away from home.

This game includes a driving sequence on the way to and from the local takeaway. Keep you're eyes peeled, or you might just miss something. Throughout the game, we encounter some rather interesting characters and there are several objects you can interact with. All of your actions on this night will determine your fate.

This game has multiple endings that will keep you guessing how the night could have ended so differently. This game will take you about 10-20 minutes to play through. I ended up getting all of the endings in my play through. It took me around 30 minutes to replay through the game. If you'd like to check out my video, you can click here! Overall, I enjoyed playing this game and trying to get all of the different endings. The whole ordeal will leave you wondering if you should have stayed home instead of venturing out to order some Egg Fried Rice.

After the Curtain Call (Acts 1 & 2)

After the Curtain Call is an indie horror game in which we play as the new electrician of the Goldshine Theatre. During the game, we are responsible for directing the spotlight, fixing circuits and anything else that is requested of us by the actors. At first everything seems normal, but we begin to realize somethings seems a little off with the actors. Are they just really committed to their roles they're acting out or is something more sinister at play?

Act 1 is a shorter demo version of the game. We learn about some of the actors as we explore the Goldshine Theatre. We are mainly meant to complete several tasks in order to complete our main task of the demo. Things definitely aren't as they seem, but we must wait to continue exploring.
In Act 2, we are once again behind the spotlight like in the first act. We are given a series of tasks to complete and are able to explore more of the theatre to do so. This time we encounter a series of enemies along the way. Who is this masked person? Why are there giant tentacles? and why does this theatre feel never ending?
Throughout both acts, there are several book collectibles we can find and interact with. I liked the mini game aspect when unlocking doors and fixing things. This game's art style and section involving hiding in little closets is also inspired by bendy and the ink machine. You can tell that game developers put a lot of thought and time into the game between the design, game mechanics and voice acting.
I really liked playing both acts for this game so far, and I would definitely recommend you try this game out for yourself. If you would like to check out my play throughs, click here for Act 1 and to see Act 2 click here! Both Acts are available to download for free or with donation on itch io if you would like to show support for the game developers. I would also recommend checking out other games by Sir Tartarus as well. I will definitely be giving my thoughts on some of them in the future.

Indigo Park (Chapter 1)

In this indie horror game, we decide to explore our favorite childhood theme park. It is now abandoned and run down, but that doesn't stop us from finding a way inside! What could possibly go wrong when entering an old creepy theme park alone in the middle of the night? Throughout the night, we encounter several characters, some jump scares and explore the park with the park's abandoned A.I. system and favorite Raccoon, Rambley.

The game developers did a very good job at creating a creepy location that also has a good mix of horror, comedy and cute characters/items all in one chapter. Any game with animals for the main characters will most likely lead to people comparing it to FNAF, but I think this game does a great job at separating itself from that comparison. It has its own completely different backstory that keeps you entertained and constantly questioning what's going on with this park.

Like most horror games, Indigo Park also has several chase sequences. Unlike most horror games, I really enjoyed how they were set up. I may have had to retry them more than once, but that is just a lack of skill on my part when playing pc. I also really enjoyed the collectable aspect of the game. As you progress throughout the game, keep an eye out for any collectables with cute/silly descriptions and anything else that might help us in finding out what horrific accident took place before the park shut down.
If you haven't already, I am begging you to check this game out. I really enjoyed playing through the first chapter. It is a fairly new game so there aren't any more chapters out yet, but you can keep up with any game development updates on the YouTube Channel Unique Geese. You can also check out my playthrough here! You can definitely tell the game developers enjoyed creating Indigo Park and have put a lot of thought, time and energy into the development. The first chapter is available to play for free on steam. I highly recommend you check out this game. I ended up missing a collectable so I will most likely be going back to replay it before the next chapter becomes available for purchase. This game has so much potential. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

That's not my Neighbor

I'll be honest. I mainly wanted to play That's not my Neighbor because it had overtaken my TikTok for you page over the summer months. It felt impossible to scroll without seeing someone playing it. If I didn't see Ryan from bimbam gaming playing it, I would definitely end up seeing someone else streaming it. As the main character in this game, we cannot find a job, so we end up being the doorman to the building we live in. Like the name implies, there are people we encounter who are not our neighbor. Doppelgangers numbers are on the rise, and it's our job to keep our building safe.

Some appearances make it very obvious that someone is a doppelganger of our neighbor, but others might slip passed you. You have to check a series of items off of a checklist to see if their appearance matches, ID information, occupation, and sometimes you will need to call their residence to see if they are already home. Make sure you check everything closely, the D.D.D. (Doppelganger Detection Department) can't help us once a doppelganger is allowed inside. Once allowed inside, we will become their next meal.
The game can get a bit repetitive in the general repetition of checking everything to see if they are able to enter or not, but I wouldn't say that the game gets super boring. There is always something new to keep you on your toes when working. I also thought it was cool that there was a nightmare mode and eventually an endless nightmare mode. It shakes things up in case you've spent too much time playing the original version of the game.
I definitely recommend you try this game for yourself. I probably will be checking out the game again this year. I played both the original version and nightmare mode on my YouTube channel. If you'd like to check out what "neighbors" I encountered, click here! This game is available to download on itch io. It is $2.99 but you definitely get your money's worth and then some with how much work the game developer(s) put into this game. It's a fun game to play when you don't know what to play and also don't want to start any super long story-based games.

Jollibae

Jollibae is a short horror game filled with jump scares, chase sequences and collectibles/notes to give more background information on the dark story behind this franchise. I didn't know at the time but Jollibae is supposed to resemble the fast food chain Jollibee.

We play as a professional eater who thinks they entered to compete in a burger eating contest. Soon after entering the restaurant, we find out that things are not as they seem. It appears that no one else has entered this competition and the building appears to be mostly empty. That is until we run into Jollibae.

After we explore for a bit, we find ourselves in a chase sequence. Most players probably breeze through this part as the common play time is about 10-15 minutes for the entire game. If you're like me, you probably will mess up the sequence multiple times until finally figuring out the correct pattern. Then, spend a couple more minutes trying to figure out how to successfully complete the button sequence without getting caught. I know some people don't like to be pulled out of the immersion of games when repeating sections. Personally, I like when it happens occasionally. It helps me get used to the jump scares so I can focus more on the game. Probably not the most logical reasoning when I chose to play a horror game, but these are just my thoughts and opinions.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who likes horror games. I enjoy being able to explore around and find notes that give creepy backstories, and the chase sequence was pretty fun aside from having to repeat it multiple times. That however is a case of "operator error" as my mom says. This game is currently available for download on itch io if you are interested in checking it out and showing support for an indie game developer. If you are interested in checking out my video playing Jollibae you can click here!

Broken Through

Broken through is a psychological horror game where we are given the possessions of our best friend who has been missing for 7 years. As we sort through his things, we begin to believe that he is still out there. Quickly we are sucked into a sequence of challenges in order to try to find our friend or at least what might have happened to him.

This game is based off of the indie developers reoccurring nightmare. It definitely gave that creepy vibe and uneasy feeling of course accompanied by some jump scares. It feels like we were sucked into a nightmare and could only continue on in hopes we would just wake up.

Broken through is also based on retro and old school games. The different levels and general gameplay feel like you are playing an old ps2 game of sorts.

Overall, I think this game is interesting. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a moderate length indie game. It took me about an hour to complete. The story line was well written and even had a bit of comedic relief.

You can click here to check out my play through of Broken Through.

The VHS Paradise

In The VHS Paradise, we work the night shift at a video rental shop. We have to deal with a variety of creepy customers, thieves and some bumps in the night. Is it too much to ask for one normal night shift?

This game reminds me of Chilla's The Closing Shift and The Convenience Store except there is some more variation when deciding how to respond to the customers. You can answer kindly, be more neutral or just completely rude. Although, I'm not sure exactly how much your response affects the gameplay.

This game is good at creating a creepy atmosphere and most definitely got me with its jump scares once or twice. There are 3 different endings to your night shift. I ended up getting all 3 endings when I played it on my YouTube channel. You can click here if you want to see my playthrough or just to skip ahead and see the different endings.

Overall, this game was pretty interesting to play. It wasn't an overly crazy game by any means, but it's more of a chill horror game that I would definitely consider revisiting in the future. At the time of writing this there is an anniversary update available to download. This game is currently free to download from itch io if you want to show support for an indie game developer.

Close to the Sun

In Close to the Sun, we play as Rose who is searching for her sister aboard the Helios. What could possibly go wrong on the "haven for the greatest scientific minds?' This game has a mix of horror, gore and puzzle solving as the story progresses.

For some reason, this game kept reminding me of Bioshock Infinite. I haven't played the game in years but for some reason it kept popping into my mind. Similar to Bioshock Infinite, everything seems perfect aboard this ship at first until we slowly discover the truth that awaits us.

This is also a game with many collectables that allow you to learn even more about the history of the ship and what has been going on. There is so much to discover as you play through this game. It did a great job at being creepy and also managed to pull at my heartstrings a bit. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time I played through.

I 1000% recommend this game to anyone who thinks they might be interested in playing it. I think it took me around 5 hours to complete this, but I also like to look around a lot in case I missed any collectables. I haven't seen anything online, but I would love to play either a sequel to this game or a second game building off of the original. It seems like they left the game open to a continuation.

You can click here to check out part 1 of my playthrough and click here for part 2.

The Closing Shift

The Closing Shift, developed by Chilla's Art, is a first-person horror game that lets you experience being a barista while working the night shift at Chilla's Coffee.

I personally really enjoyed this game to the point where I have replayed it several times to try to get the multiple endings, but I'd be lying if I didn't mention I mainly replay it because I enjoyed the barista simulator part of the game.

Just when you feel like you've gotten the mechanics down, the atmosphere shifts and you are reminded that you're playing a horror game.

Overall, I would highly recommend Chilla's coffee to anyone that wants to play a horror game but is afraid of playing games where someone is constantly chasing you or where the entire game atmosphere scares/stresses you out. I feel like it has the perfect amount of horror mixed with barista simulator. I also wouldn't mind if they created an actual barista simulator game haha.

This is one of the first games I played on my YouTube channel. If you're interested in watching click here!
